LA SALLE FACULTY EXPERT: CONCUSSION: Meredith Kneavel, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at La Salle University.
Philadelphia, PA (09/17/2025) — As fall contact sports begin, followed quickly by winter sports, so do concerns about concussion risks among athletes of all ages. An estimated 3.8 million concussions happen per year during sports and recreational activities, with as many of 50% going unreported.
Meredith Kneavel, Ph.D., dean of La Salle University's School of Nursing and Health Sciences, can provide expert information and commentary on concussion risk, reporting and identification.
She has published extensively on concussion and is one of the developers of a peer education program to improve concussion reporting among athletes. The program has recently been implemented among La Salle student-athletes, who have completed peer concussion education training.
This work also led to the development of a Center for Concussion Education and Research, where she serves as the Director of Assessment and Research.
